The University of Utah football team won February bragging rights.

Kyle Whittingham and his staff had the best recruiting haul in the state by far, a solid but not spectacular showing according to rankings of the top national recruiting websites.

The Utes' recruiting class — bolstered by four-star athletes Jack Tuttle (QB) and Solomon Enis (WR) — was ranked as high as 34th in the nation by 247Sports.com and as low as No. 45 (ESPN.com). Rivals.com ranked their haul of prospects 38th.

Utah ranked in the middle of the Pac-12 — USC was tops — with a recruiting class that averaged 3.05 stars in Rivals.com's system.

Kalani Sitake's struggling program in Provo didn't bring in nearly as much talent in the wake of its rough 4-9 2017 season, according to those same recruiting experts. The Cougars' recruiting class — highlighted by Gunner Romney (WR), Zachary Wilson (QB) and Dallin Holker (TE) — was only ranked 93rd by Rivals.com, which listed schools like Texas-San Antonio, Georgia State and North Texas ahead of BYU.

The two other websites gave the Cougars a bit more credit for their signings, as ESPN.com listed them 73rd overall and 247Sports.com had them at No. 78. Rivals.com listed BYU's recruits as averaging 2.14 stars.

Utah State's recruiting class was ranked No. 113 by 247Sports.com, but the Aggies weren't listed by Rivals.com (Top 100) or ESPN.com (Top 75). Rivals.com ranked Matt Wells' group sixth overall in the MWC with an average of 1.76 stars.

Some tidbits from ESPN.com's Insider rankings:

On Utah: ESPN called the Utes' class "small on numbers" with 23 recruits, but they brought in two ESPN 300 players in East High defensive end Tennessee Pututau and Enis from Arizona. Incoming JUCO standout linebacker Bryant Pirtle was another good get.

On BYU: "To say the Cougars addressed a need at quarterback in the 2018 cycle would be an understatement." ESPN believes the addition of Wilson and Stacy Conner gives the staff good future options. BYU's offensive line was a position that was addressed.
