the black arts of politics. Remember Nixon's Southern strategy coming off
the 1964 Civil Rights Acts and 1965 Voting Rights Act? The South switched from

@worf: "A person is innocent until proven guilty"A
voluntarily confession squanders most if not all of the benefits afforded by the
innocent-until-proven-guilty presumption.Don Jr. may have admitted
to all the elements required to prove a violation of 52 U.S.C. 30121. This law
prohibits a campaign from soliciting a "thing of value" from a foreign
national, or a foreign national contributing a "thing of value" to a
campaign.Opposition research costs money to conduct, and those sunk
costs represent "value" regardless of whether or not a campaign ever
puts it to use. Don Jr. agreed to the proposed meeting on the
premise that the Russian lawyer had some opposition research to share. By
itself, this likely qualifies as his soliciting a "thing of value" from
a foreign national in violation of 52 U.S.C. 30121.As more details
emerge, it appears the Russian lawyer brought with her written material and left
it behind. That likely qualifies as a contribution of a "thing of
value" from a foreign national in violation of 52 U.S.C. 30121.Continuing to defend or enable Trump requires normalizing criminality...a
terrible but well-deserved legacy for the Republican party.

People all over the world are concerned about elections in any country. But only
the Russians have been shown to actively seek to manipulate an election by going
after computer systems. Yes, there is propaganda to affect people's

social media and the micro-targeting of voters, see WSJ story, June 30,
2017).There is no equivalence here. Having Vladimir Putin coming out

the unwitting agents who spread Russian disinformation during the election,
that's a different kettle of fish. People need to be aware that they are
