I would ask why the cops didn't act to prevent the march participants from being attacked by the liberal protesters? Why not just allow the marchers to march and ignore them if you wish? The intent of the left is to foment trouble whenever there is a group of folks who don't accept their political views and are going to express those opposing views openly.

Throw the car driver in jail and lose the key. That was a despicable criminal act.

We as a society have lost our way when we attempt to eliminate any counter-memory or counter-memorial to our civil war. This is nothing less that an attempt by social forces of the left to rewrite history and obfuscate the basic causes of that war. It is an effort to turn the civil war into only a fight against slavery.

Trump was right. There was violence on many sides. The car-murderer was obviously violent. AntiFa had pepper spray and baseball bats of their own, however. The only innocents here are the people of Charlottesville, whose town was invaded by out-of-town troublemakers.

I would be interested to hear President Trump explain to the families of the dead and injured what he meant by basically saying all parties are to blame for the white supremacists' violence. I don't agree.

    @ George of the jungle

"Ya have to stand up for something or you'll fall for anything."

You might think that's a cute little quote (it's not) but that's what ISIS believes.

It's too bad this needs to be spelled out but when an ISIS supporter mows down and kills people in Europe with a vehicle, that is of much greater interest to the far right than if a white supremacist does the same thing here. The GOP's platform of fear and hate-mongering suddenly is justified.

When a deadly tragedy occurs at the hands of an alt-right terrorist group, all kinds of mealy-mouthed equivocations are made.

I beleive it is morally wrong, and fundamentally un-Christian, to defend the perpetrators of violence in Virginia.

And it is the moral and ethical imperative to call out anyone who weasels a defense of death and destruction, claiming racial purity, white nationalism or fascist ideology.

Most times, the apologists are worse that the perpetrators. Only they did not commit the act in question.

Trump encouraged violence against opponents at his rallies. I heard with my own ears. What should we expect?

Some of the country is in a fascist move. We are going through what anthropologist Karl Polanyi would call as "fascist move." Will it become a movement?

trump could not diminish our international prestige. BO had already eliminated it. apology tour, red line in the sand, allowing iran nukes and giving them money, ignoring the NK threat, allowing the isis jv to flourish and thrive.

Two died in a helicopter crash. Do we know who the driver was targeting, if anyone?

They have the right to protest, just like the flag burners. The hate and violence came from both sides.

If only trump spoke about the kkk/white supremacist groups the same way he spoke about the MS-13 gang.

Claiming the White Nationalists are defending history is ludicrous. Look at what the organization stands for. This is just a good excuse for them to gather.

    @slars
the problem is they didn't protest, they beat people and ran people down with a car, killing three people, but I suspect you know that.

President Trump condemned "in the strongest possible terms an egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides" Senator Hatch said "ideas fueled by hate have no place in a civil society"

What if once 50 racists showed up and NO ONE, not a single counter-protester, not a single reporter or cameraman, not a single bystander showed up?

The racists would go home disappointed, the counter-protesters who want to mix it up would be safe as would bystanders. Police could go home to their families safely and reporter would be bummed as there would be no news to report.

They have a right to protest, and the statue of Lee is not racist. It's our history, and they need to leave it alone.

The North had six states were slavery was allowed, are they going to tear Grant down also?

The hate cancer is spreading faster than ever and it has taken another quantum leap. Do we want our nation to become like that of Syria? The real enemies of the United States are ISIS, and NK. Why is it these hate groups will not fight the enemies of the US there. Why don't they join the military and ask they be stationed in Syria and the DMZ.

And conservative media is no better. All they want to do is to attack liberals, Democrats, Hillary, in other words attack half the nation who support them. This takes no courage. Why don't Hannity, Limbaugh and others ask their companies to move them to Syria or the DMZ so they can broadcast from there? Then they be able to recruit their listeners, including Trump sons to join them in the fight to destroy ISIS and protect our troops at the DMZ.

Though this will never happen because it requires COURAGE, which it seems they have none. We continue to fight among ourselves, don't be surprised our nation will become like Syria, the destruction and all.

Simple despicable, but this seems to be today's world. Troubling indeed. Maybe, just maybe, our dear POTUS will take time to comment on this horrific event before he tees off tomorrow morning.

Trump has greatly diminished our country's prestige on an international level. The people he has surrounded himself with has contributed a lot to that.

While that is bad enough, the domestic social unrest that Trump's constant panderings seems to invite could be unlike anything we have ever seen before.

I would hope the tragic events in Charlottesville would lead to a serious discussion about whether Steve Bannon belongs in the White House. It would not hurt if Utah's elected leaders chimed in.

The President needs to specifically call out white nationalists, and condemn people like David Duke, who refer to Trump in their pronouncements.

White Nationalism is a powder keg that could tear this country apart.

Your nation really needs you to be specific in your condemnation, Mr. President.

cowardly president. Are you referring to BO and his 'cling to their guns and religion' comment? or was it his 'ride in the back' comment? hilary was not elected, so you could not be referring to her 'despicables' comment.

"The counter protesters likely more so."
This comment flies in the face of all the known facts.ladt night hundreds of alt right torch baring thugs surrounded a small group of counter protesters holing a sign and beat them burtelly. While Mr. Spencer and alt right organizer egged them on. Today a group of alt right protesters coordinated a car attack on counter protesters peacefully assembled and David Duke declared the fulfillment of the promise of the Trump election of white people taking back thier country.

to remove Lee's statue is foolish, short-sighted, and shows ignorance of history - and would deepen and perpetuate that ignorance. Only Lee's stature and the respect he commanded prevented confederate soldiers from continuing a guerrilla (sp??) campaign following the surrender at Appomattox. Lee prevented the war from continuing in an even more brutal and cruel manner.

as for the protesters and counter protesters, both are responsible for the violence, but the counter protesters likely more so. How DARE anyone think other than they and express it.
