While I don't agree with a lot of things Trump is or does, at least the man
is trying to take the country back from the liberals. I voted for him since he
wants to help our economy and is pro America- something the liberals don't
seem to like. I rather enjoy him attacking the media. We know that CNN, etc.
have been on the side of the liberals. Let's even things up. Now the
media doesn't even try to hide their bias - it is an all out attack on
Trump. Can't stand to read the newspaper and even liberalism and extreme
PC seems to have crept into the Deseret News. The truth seems to win out
though. Have to have a strong economy and capitalism to make this country
prosper much to the dismay of the tax and spend liberals. California is the
prime example- being supported by the feds. Always teetering on bankruptcy.
That's what liberalism does- it caves in on itself. Have you seen the
State of New York ads on TV lately trying to bring business back- saying they
lowered taxes. This is from a terribly liberal state. They know what has hurt
New York's economy and they know what will bring it back. Not liberalism.
Media cultural marxists favorably reporting on academic cultural marxists
complaining that those who call out the deception of cultural marxism are
"darker" than you think."The world will teach our
children if we do not, and children are capable of learning all the world will
teach them at a very young age."-- Rosemary Wixom"For
we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against
powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual
wickedness in high places."-- Eph 6:12We know where the
real darkness is coming from.
The leftist media in this country should be called out and beaten back every
hour of every dayThe amount of garbage that they try to pass off as
news is appalling
The press has largely stopped being the so called "Fourth Estate" and
have become the propaganda arm of the Democrats and the far left Progressives.
That started way before Trump ever thought of running, which means it's
nothing new. It has just gotten more blatant in the last 16 years.
There is nothing sinister going on here. Trump is simply a glib egomaniac who
cannot handle any kind of criticism. he media is waging a war on him, but he
started that war. He has to realize that at this point everything he does will
be criticized by the media almost universally (except for by his favorite
channel Fox News). The fact is that the media has a right to criticize him, and
he has given them plenty to criticize, and even if there is nothing to criticize
biased media will find something. The erosion of our constitution is very real
and should not be taken lightly, but Trump is not about to establish some kind
of authoritarian regime. He's just an idiot who shoots his mouth offThe real problem is the erosion of truth and honest dialogue throughout our
country from Trump, from the media, and from political correctness police on the
left. Thomas Jefferson said that he believed that "educating the masses"
would preserve liberty and that if the American public had the truth they would
never steer the country wrong. The problem is that there is nowhere to find
truth in the arena of politics and the longer we are without it the harder it
will be for us to recognize it.
whatever "war" there is President Trump didn't start it nor does he
fuel it. He responds and stands up for himself and his family as any decent man
would and should do against a crude, fake-news, media. The president certainly
has more restraint than I would have against the "bottom-feeders" in the
@Ralph ,Get it straight. It's a fight for the Constitution.
Trump didn't:* cause our national debt* rig
the voting system against Bernie Sanders * sneak millions of dollars to
Iran* send arms to Mexican drug cartels* give nuclear technology to
North Korea* give North Korea four billion dollars to aid their nuclear
developmentDo the home work.
So the liberal bastion of academe think that Trump is trying to do
"dark" things to the liberal bastion of the main stream media. As
they are ex officio arms of the Democrat party why am I not surprised they
think that way. . .
Ugh! I read all 59 pages of this paper looking for anything of substance. What a
waste of time. It's nothing more than the same liberal trope (compete with
the Nazi reference) written in pompous, overbearing, erudite gobbledygook. It reminded me of the professor at ASU who let the kids protest Trump in
lieu of taking the final exam. The fact that liberalism has taken over so much
of academia is the reason the media is so biased in the first place. Now you
write a hit piece on Trump in pretentious, sesquipedalian, intelligentsia
verbiage and not only does it pass for scholarship, it gets promoted in the
media (no surprise there). Donald Trump did not causing the trust
deficit in the media. He simply calls it out. The truth is that the media are
dying of self inflicted wounds. They are like the drug addict who promises to
stop lying every time they are caught, but then turn back to the same pattern of
deceit. At some point you weary and tune them out.
his war with the media is a problem but the bigger issues is his war on the
truth and reality.
Hilarious. He hasn't done anything yet, but according to some old German
theory we know he will eventually. Yeah, sounds like the argument for global
warming. Cite some facts and we'll talk. Meanwhile they're
demonstrating exactly what's wrong with Big Media. They claim all these
rights and privileges but have forgotten their responsibilities to The People.
Stop trying to tell us what to think and just give us information.
President Trump deserves his bad press. He contradicts himself constantly, picks
petty fights with celebrities and never checks his spelling. If he stopped doing
just these few things he would come off a lot more presidential. It's a low
bar.Every media has bias. We should all take care to pick news that
cite sources, attempts to stick to the facts and at least attempts to keep their
bias hidden. Reporting stories will have as many versions as those who tell them
- but the facts should remain the same.If Trump ever does decide to
go after journalists, we are in big trouble as a country. I hope we can
withstand that kind of attack on the constitution.
"Trump appears to be on the path toward eliminating important protections
for the press."He can't amend constitutional rights, so
what important protections are we afraid we're about to lose? There's
too much and too incredible of manipulation in the U.S. political coliseum these
days to trust anyone to do anything good anymore, even on a small scale.
Basically, if you have faith in the politics of mankind, you've put your
faith in the wrong place. The very exact same thing can and should be said about
the mass media as well. The left see Trump as a dark shroud over
America right now. Truth is, that dark shroud is decades upon decades old. The
disintegration of the family has brought us nearly to our knees and even now
people still deny the importance of righteousness for maintaining liberty. All of our freedoms have been under heavy threat for decades. The
greatest threat isn't the one breaking down your door, but the one you
welcomed in as a friend. Americans have been manipulated into ideologies that
frankly aren't American. As someone who voted 3rd party, I still
absolutely believe the role of the press needs to change.
Things done by the DNC with the press and the parties election were much worse
than anything Trump has ever done. How soon they forget. I wish
Obama was President again, I would treat him like the media and Democrats treat
Trump. I didn't like the many things he did, but I never acted out like we
are seeing now.
The reality show host has a daily war with his own endless dissembling. The media reports on this re-Publican endorsed and approved charade. The fact that trump or those people who voted for him can't handle the
truth is not the fault of the media.
Yes, worf, we know, Trump is your political paragon. You just keep
fighting against the Constitution, someday you may get your fascist
War against the dark side continues.Trump is a true Jedi.
It has become increasingly obvious to many informed voters that the main stream
media and the progressive academic community are lap dogs for the Democratic
Party and cannot be trusted by those believing in the Constitution and the
principles espoused by our founding fathers. This consuming desire that
progressives have to change America into a European type socialist welfare state
with a globalist view of the world is what we need to fear.
trump would be a paper tiger if he did not have support from the senators and
congressmen. If he floated a balloon and no one saluted, he would have no
influence on the press or in other arenas. But they keep saying how bad he is,
and then supporting him with their vote. If this does not change we need to
send a message to them in November 2018.
Trump has himself to blame for the awful press. He deserves it. On the other
hand, at least he got Justice Gorsuch appointed to the Supreme Court. That
reason, and that reason alone, is the reason we are glad he won the election.
Now if he would only resign and go back to playing golf. We can dream.
Wait, there are two people in America who still take Trump seriously enough to
bother drafting this sort of paper? Does Trump have some sort of
'darker' motivations towards the media and a desire to curtail press
freedoms? Perhaps. But even if so, what he wants is largely inconsequential
given Trump's chronic and deep-seated incompetence, combined with the
broken inner circle of desperate yes-men who dare not point out the obvious.
Trump has achieved lame duck status before the end of the first 100 days...which
he may well tout via Twitter as another amazing accomplishment (Gorsuch is the
other) unless someone explains to Trump what lame duck means.
Alex Jones propagates conspiracy theories like the Newtown school massacre was
"fake", the 9/11 attack was a "false flag" staged by our
government, as well as the Boston Marathon bombing and the Oklahoma City
bombing. Trump rewards Alex Jones by inviting him to the White House. This lends credence to the belief Trump may have some type of mental illness.
Wouldn't a mentally healthy president side with the families and
communities who lost loved ones rather than side with a for-profit right-wing
"entertainer" who peddles wackadoodle conspiracy theories? But think about how Jason Chaffetz would function if there was no fawning
right-wing media. He'd be here in Utah fighting to get classroom sizes
reduced. He'd be making sure we have clean air to breathe and clean water
to drink. He'd be fighting to improve the quality of life for all
Utahans.Chaffetz can easily withstand all the grief shouted at him a
town hall. Why? Because the right-wing bloggers are his real constituents. He is
much more likely to introduce legislation to name a post office after Alex Jones
before he does anything to help someone who cleans hotel rooms for a living .
We must have a free press or we may become like North Korea, or any number of
places who can only report sanctioned news. That is not as far-fetched as it
It's a bit comical to see the factional nature of this article and the
comments to it. As if the comments by and directed toward Trump were really a
battle between good on one side and evil on the other (with the reader left to
assign the attributes to either side). From what I can tell the real
problem is with a President who has a chronic problem with communicating in a
way that rises above the immature and slightly deranged on one side and
chronically biased excuses for "journalists" in the press whose
hypocrisy shines through any attempt at objectivity on the other. In
other words, it's a battle between equals, in terms of their undesirable
traits, with American society being the losers. However, I think it
is important to remember that neither of these "sides" would be viable
were it not for the dishonest elements of American society that enables both.
Despite any desperate references to popular vs electoral votes, by our system we
elected Trump as President. Likewise, the obvious and long term biases of the
mainstream press/media is only possible because of the support, direct or
indirect, of the reading public. In short, we get what we deserve.
I agree, Trump shouldn't attack the media. Please tell me who is
the media and who is just an arm of the Democrat party. Because it's clear
that CNN and the rest are nothing but the public relations arm of the DNC. And
Trump has no obligation to treat the DNC and the Democrat party fairly. After
all, they have zero problems with lying and making up stories about Trump. Ben Rhodes, one of the leaders in the Obama administration, boasted how
he had turned what was left of the media into nothing more than people who
reprint press releases from Obama. He boasted about how journalists don't
investigate anymore; and how they came to him for instructions on what to print
or cover. They aren't the media; they don't do
journalism, and thus no one owes them any deference at all; least of all Trump.
Today's media is just like Tokyo Rose; loudly proclaiming glorious
victories over the evil Americans that somehow kept coming closer to the
homeland. Yes, exactly like Tokyo Rose: openly treasonous and clear in their
goal to destroy America. It's a perfect analogy.
@hoosier"Now that it's been proven that Trump was correct -
crickets."Please cite specific evidence that Trump was correct
in his accusation that he was 'wiretapped by Obama'.Details matter.
Trump wants and expects the media to be his complicit lapdog, to heap praises on
him and ignore all the unpleasantries about and around him. And, there are a lot
of those. Thus, his 'war' on the media. His own words are enough
to convict him, yet he persists on in a reality of his own making. The emperor,
it seems, has many negative qualities and does many strange, unpleasant or rude
things. Reality isn't media bias.
Sure, there's media bias. (Although it's a lot more pro-corporatist
and a lot less "liberal" than most people think.) But just look at the
facts. Simply put, when the media report the FACTS of what Trump has said and
done, Trump and his defenders just start yelling "Fake news! Fake news!"
They don't respond to the facts. When they're called out for saying
one thing and doing another, they don't provide any explanation, they just
bluster and change the subject. Then they do what they can to distract you from
what's really going on, which is that the current administration is the
most corrupt and pro-Mammon presidential administration in the history of the
USA. Pay attention not only to what Trump and his defenders ACTUALLY SAY, but
ALSO pay attention to WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO. They are saying and doing things,
things you can verify quite easily, that are already ruining the nation and the
Excuse me! The Left and the prior administration and followers made Trump the
villain long before he called them out. Nobody else would have had the guts and
the backbone to say and do what he says. This paper is one of them always posing
the negative toward our POTUS. It's disgusting!Darker? Are you
serious? What could have been darker than the last 8 years. So much deceit,
lies, and cover-ups. And, they are still uncovering more and more. The
left-winged media refuses to cover anything that makes Obama look tainted in any
way. That's the real shame today. The media has dug a hole, and
they can lie in it!
Some things never change - autocrats will always try to shut down the press.
Thank goodness our Founding Fathers hard-coded freedom of the press in the
Two liberal professors don't like Trump. Should we be surprised?
Maybe if Trump acted like an adult, didn't say/tweet childish comments,
attack the press and anyone else for reporting the truth or heaven forbid record
and then play back his nonsense.Maybe if the President acted like a
leader instead of this weeks thin skinned contestant fighting to stay on a
reality show, he would get some respect. Speaking of respect, I was
always told it was earned and should be mutual, Donald's arrogance of
he's smarter than the intelligence community, braver than our enlisted, and
know more then anyone else, might play to his base, but normal people see thru
this insecurity.Maybe if he spent more time working instead of
golfing and eating chocolate cake, while making important decisions.Perhaps if his administration wasn't lining up to beat the Reagan Admin
for most criminal convictions.White Nationalists and racist groups
are the only demographic he is gaining popularity with, because they see a
leader in his rhetoric. At some point you have to ask, Is the rest of
the world and America all wrong, or is it just Trump, being Trump?
"What is Trump to do? The Media is so mean to him!"A few
things he could try:Stop calling every story he doesn't like
'fake news'Stop lyingStop exaggeratingStop saying
ridiculous thingsStop blaming everybody else for his mistakesStop
contradicting himselfStop giving himself a pass for the exact same things
he skewered Obama forJust some ideas.
Who is objective, the media or trump? Who lies then flip-flops literally on the
same day?Who has made many promises they have now ignored?Do some of
you people commenting expect the media to treat trump the way the fake news
network treats trump? I realize republican politics is more important than
reality for some of you, but come on.
The media has waged a personal vendetta against the Trump administration since
he threw his hat in for President of the United States. They have
attacked him and have made millions of dollars off of him. This is
unprecedented in the history of the press/media. It's disgusting to see
this occur. So, if anything happens, they asked for it. I believe the
Constitution will continue to protect these scum bags.
I don't feel sorry one bit for the press. Trump isn't going to silence
you. He will will be gone in four or eight years. He is not going to hurt you in
that amount of time. The real issue you have with him is you hate his agenda. I
don't particularly like his style but I am very grateful it's him and
not her. What I have found to be of particular interest, is that the
media has absolutely no idea how to cover this President. He has them
completely on their heels. And they know that!Journalist quit being
journalist some time ago. They speak for their party and their own agenda. I
might actually feel bad for them if they were doing their job as journalists.
Let me make sure I got this straight - media hates you, calls you every name in
the book, doesn't report on anything that makes you look good OR that makes
your opponents look bad, then clearly you are destroying our form of
democracy! Here's another thought; the news media is an arm of
the Democratic party and only supports their guys. I heard the media SCREAM
that if Obama did in fact wire tap Trump it would be the worst abuse of power
ever, million times worse than Watergate. And Trump was out of his mind to even
suggest it and that he needed to immediately apologize. Now that it's been
proven that Trump was correct - crickets. Yeah, that's an honest,
trustworthy, noble organization right there. If I were President,
I'd be doing the same thing as Trump. Our media does not deserve any
support. It's corrupt almost top to bottom. Maybe Trump could
go back to the old days and let the liberal media do whatever they want, then
our democracy would be safe again...
The overwhelming majority of Americans and the rest of the world realize the
ignorance and childish temperament of Donald Trump. The press that is friendly
to Trump are the same ones who lavished praise on Julian Assange and don't
seem to mind the Russians influencing our election . In Trump's world the
real media are the ones who think Julian Assange is a patriot and Hillary
Clinton was actually convicted of a crime. In other words the fake news is his
friend and the free press are the ones pointing out that the emperor has no
clothes. Thank God for the first amendment.
This is what passes for scholarship these days?If these professors
did indeed write a similar paper about Obama attacking the press, namely Fox
News, then I apologize in advance. But to be clear, presidents are critical of
the media. From Nixon, FDR, Truman, Obama, Trump, and so on.The only
thing new here is the use of Twitter. Trump didn't invent fake news. The
mainstream media did.Obama actually prosecuted and temporarily
jailed journalists for not revealing sources who were putting his administration
in a bad light. I wonder how many academic papers were written about this
