Whoever huntley played for would have won the game, take him away from Utah and give him to BYU and BYU would have won a whole lot bigger than Utah because BYU's dumb mistakes were primarily from our own QB throwing 3 picks.

Funny thing is, we were supposed to have the better QB and DBs, we certainly had neither.

BYU needs some soul searching, this next game will be ugly, after what will be a 1-3 season being embarrassed by LSU, missing every chance to beat Utah (who really played sloppy aside from huntley and the D and special teams), and coming off what I hope isn't another shut-out by Wiscy, BYU gets a bye week to prepare for USU.

USU will come gunning for BYU and has shown themselves capable of beating BYU in years past, so BYU better be up for that game as the tune-up before Boise and Mississippi State.

I love the coaching staff, but we never should have started the season so unprepared, you can't win games without a run game to challenge the defense and keep them in check. BYU could still turn it around, but sadly the best we can do is mediocre after this start by winning games that we always should have won unless we beat one of the last 2 remaining big teams.

Huntley looked like Taysom Hill before is 12 season ending injuries. I hope it stays that way. I would hate to see him get injured. Mangum might be finished. As bad as his stats are, they don't reflect how poorly he has played. It might be time for a change. If you stick with the pro style offense, give Detmer a look. If you back off the PS and move more to Spread, give Hoge a look. Mangum is not the same guy he was. I'm not sure what happened, but I don't see any game left in him. When BYU gets down by 24 points in the 2nd quarter next week, if Mangum comes out for another series, I'm turning off the TV.

I agree with London, I was actually having anxiety watching him run. I thought more than once that he was headed for a serious injury. I'm glad he survived the game, but at that pace, it's only time before he gets hurt. He's got a very good arm and he's accurate. Keep him in the pocket.

"if BYU is as bad as what u think they are - well, you probably know what's coming in your conference games...and that's not going to be pretty for u."

    scoreboard:

On the other hand, if BYU-P was as great as coog fans and media predicted - well, then Utah would be in the CFP.

Think it is time fro BYU to end their sports programs as its a distraction from their academic programs, etc. BYU-P needs to go the way of Ricks College to BYU-I... no collegiate sports. BYU football of the 1980's is gone and is not coming back. Sorry BYU fans.

    huntley was absolutely amazing!

that being said, 190lbs and running like that is scary in PAC play - Taysom kept getting hurt and he's got 45 or 50 lbs on Huntley.

Awesome QB - but really risky in how he was running.

Both QBs are bruised bad today I'm sure, I bet Tanner has a bruise that says "HANSEN" backwards in his rib-cage today.

    Congrats utes!

I'm not suggesting for a minute that BYU is a better team than the U but if the QBs are reversed, then BYU wins that game. Huntley is the real deal. He can both run and throw very well.

    ----

So can Williams to beat BYU.

Mangum would be 4th string saftey at Utah, with QBs ahead of him would be Williams, Bateman, Hansen.

    ------

An abysmal center, 100+ yards in penalties, and 6 times in the redzone:

    * 4 FG
    * 1 TD
    * 1 cute 4th down play to keep BYU fans believing in miracles

I agree, if Utah plays this sloppy in PAC-12 play we will finish 8-9th ahead of only Cal, Arizona, ASU, and Oregon State who are all better than BYU.

think huntley may have the best arm i have ever seen on a utah quarterback. he can even throw bullets in opposite direction to his movement. throws a tight spiral that looks easy to catch.

thought utah should have thrown ball more downfield, as the receivers were continually getting open. utah actually played pretty conservative football, for the most part. had thought taylor had the authority to open it up a lot more. with huntley's are and the speed of receivers would think they try several fly patterns during game

All that dynamic play only scored 19 points and a 6 pt win. The Y defense was great. The headline should be the Y offense improved but not enough and more work is needed.

    -----

    7 stright moral victories!

The headline should say Utah played horrible but still improved to 7-3 at LES.

Tyler Huntley is seriously one of the best QBs I have seen. By the time he leaves Utah, whenever that will be, he could possibly shred Alex Smith's records. Nothing but praise for the mature way he played the entire game. Great athlete.

Could it be that... the QB factor has shifted to the University of Utah? I'm sensing that that is beginning.

Tyler Huntley played lights out. It's too bad their offense couldn't finish drive due to dumb penalties. That can be coached up, thought.

Gay is a fantastic kicker. And Mitch's punts are outstanding. That one punt that took the perfect bounce, but barely over the line was a thing a beauty. Even if it was a touchback by an inch or two. Utah is loaded. A new offensive system will complete the team and they are trending in the right direction. Clean up penalties and Utah's program will soar to new heights.

This was an exciting, weird and emotional game and I'm glad my Utes came out of Provo with their 60th win in this great but incredibly lopsided series. LES looked beautiful and the atmosphere was crackling with electricity. Coach Sitake put an improved team on that field and even the vaunted U d line was a bit gassed in the 4th. But as I predicted --they were the difference in this game. For all of the sloppy plays on offense--Tyler Huntley was a gem. What an arm! And what mature decision making. He is a flat out keeper. I'm thankful to the Y for being good hosts and to the Utah players and fans who represented their school so well. Good luck to the Utes against the Spartans next week and I'm counting on a scrappy Cougar squad to bounce back and score an upset on the Badgers. If you do, you'll get a big grin and a hearty thumbs up from this Ute fan and you'll make our strength of schedule look even better. That's something to play for right there!

Really? You're going to start already with "it's a close score and we're almost as good as you" again?

Sorry, you were out-coached, outmanned and outplayed. Utah penalties made it look close. Your defense, while decent, was anything but great. And please, why, would anyone ever want to state in a headline (or anywhere else) that your offense was improved?

Utah has very good coaches who will fix the penalty thing with the young players in a new system. How is your "improved offense" going to beat Wisconsin?

What is wrong with our defensive secondary they give up way to much yardage in the air ? The interior defense is solid. What to do about the offense? I don't see much hope there. They are out of sync and don't seem very motivated. Mangum sure gets a lot of his passes batted down and his number of intercepts is unacceptable. I see more losses. Boise State, likely, Wisconsin and Mississippi State for sure. Everyone else they may squeak by but there may be a loss come out of these lesser football programs as well. I just watch every week to see if they might get better not with any expectation that they might win. It is a torturous condition to be in for a long time fan.

Utes keep driving while shooting themselves in the foot on BYU'S good D. Low snaps, bad exchanges, and penalties killing big plays.
If Utes clean it up, they're really good!
As stated, BYU offense sucks. Good luck Cougs.
Utes onward to a game that can clean it all up & then the real fun begins in PAC12. #goutes

This is not complicated. The Utes are a better team with better players across the board. BYU is simply not a top team. We recruit around #50, send most of them on missions and then expect to beat the big boys? It s not going to happen. BYU has for years been a team that picks off a Big 5 very occasionally but in general gets beat by Big 5 and wins the majority of non Big 5. That's just who we are. Good win Utes I hope you do well in the PAC! Let Mangum play out if the gun to bring the O out of this funk. Cougar fans keep your expectations in line with the reality of BYU recruiting and life will be much better.

Pretty ugly game at times. Huntley is becoming a true College Football Star. He made the cougars look foolish and untalented at times. Byu's D is pretty good, but after watching them in person, I see four more losses for this team. Detmer looks very uncomfortable on the sidelines. Magnum had a good last drive but he is turnover prone. Utes has tough schedule ahead with four teams in the top 25. See ya next year at RES.

Have to laugh at the Utah fans who are showing quite a lack of class by some of their salt in the wound comments. Better to just celebrate that you have a very good team and an excellent program that is well coached and well funded! As for BYU, your program is in serious trouble and this does not portend well for the rest of the season. Many BYU fans like me are befuddled and are losing hope fast that this program is ever going anywhere. It appears that we can't attract the good athletes. Wow, time to find another team (like Oklahoma) to root for. Go Sooners!

First paragraph succinctly summed up the game. Sloppy mistakes by Utah and a punchless offense by BYU. Seems like these have become the respective trademarks of Utah and BYU during the past several years. Hope they can both overcome these nagging problems and have successful seasons.

Can Cahoon coach? The receivers need serious help!

Is the only way to get the ball to Trinnaman to handoff to him?

What happened to the QB who was co-MVP of the Elite 11 and freshman QB of the year? Has Detmer coached him down? Dropped passes by receivers don't help.

Has anyone been able to return one of Mitch W's kickoffs yet this year? And his tackle of Trinnaman was a game saver, snuffing the life out of the Cougars.

AutoMATTic Gay is looking like a Groza candidate.

Huntley is way better than Williams as both a runner and passer. Good choice by the staff to go with him over Troy. He's dynamic; Mangum is so pedestrian by comparison.

Nice of the Utes to let the game be close on the scoreboard, but was there ever really any doubt?

Mangum, who led BYU to 13-unanswered points and had a game-winning drive attempt in the last minute, had two receivers drop passes to spoil a last-ditch effort to win. Utah 19, BYU 13.

    ------------

Putting lipstick on a pig! LOL

13-unanswered points? For BYU? The game was 16-0, then 16-6, then 19-16, then 19-13. Where was the 13-unanswered?

one was drop pass the other ball was batted down by a Ute defender.

Utah should have kicked a field goal, 22-6 game over. Instead they let BYU hang around, BYU was LUCKY to be in the game.

I don't think Tanner is cut out for Ty's offense. Taysom Hill and Jamal Williams papered over the problems last year with their ability to ad lib with their running. Hopefully the coaches can find a way to modify the scheme to fit their quarterback. Tanner is a good guy and its kind of tough watching what's happening.
