@Rick for Truth"As soon as BYU plays a team with a defense and
one big guy (7+), they will struggle, sputter, and collapse."Yoeli has a seven foot wingspan and has a forty inch vertical. He won't
be intimidated by many seven footers. BYU defense will be much improved and with
a healthy Bryant and a real point guard in Hardnett and with Seljaas and Haws on
the wings, this could be a better team than last year's Cougar team.
Dalton Nixon will be a huge impact player on this team. Y. Child’s
will be a force on both ends of the court. Eli Bryant will bring the
balance to the offense, because he is a team player. Z. Seljaas will score
a lot of points. TJ Haws will be a much better player on this team and
will be forced to play within the system or he will find himself on the bench.
I really like Hardnett. He’s the kind of player that will make
everyone better. Worthington might not score a lot of points, but his
defense will make a difference. The rest of the team better make it
quality time when they are on the court if they want to see more playing time.
Emery won’t be missed. Maybe when he comes back he will have figured
some things out. Go Cougars!
@intrinsic-Hard to get too much over-hype when they are only rated
3rd behind St. Mary's and Gonzaga.St. Mary's I believe returns
all starters and Coach Few always reloads FAST.That all said I think
the new BYU coach has introduced the new culture to winning; problem is that a
program's evolving culture won't bear much fruit in the first
transitional year... Thank goodness basketball has begun! I'm
tired of seeing all the targeting calls and thug play inherent in football and
the way it apparently is coached.
Rick for TruthYou obviously don't have a clue how seeding works
if you think that BYU could be a 16th seed.
Three starters and the first of the bench were not even on the roster last
year!! This is a much different team. And though last year was a
disappointment, they still won a lot of games. With the new emphasis on
defense, ball movement on offense, and not losing anyone to graduation, this
could be the start of a very good two year run. But, I would still
like to see better inside play.Certainly, this was against a very
poor opponent. When the Y goes up against better competition, we will see if
they are as good as it seems they might be.But right now? Every
reason to be optimistic.
I actually like this team better than last year. Before, it was, "Feed it to
Mica!" This team is more balanced. We love seeing a strong and healthy
Elijah Bryant! Also Childs is really shining on this new look team. You can see the difference in the strong defense. It is very impressive!
Newcomers and RM are looking really good! These players are schooled to wait,
pass, and then take the better shot instead of hurry down the floor and
shoot!Go BYU Cougars!
As soon as BYU plays a team with a defense and one big guy (7+), they will
struggle, sputter, and collapse. Until BYU can land their own big player, they
just will not jump to the next level. Can you say NIT, if there really lucky, or
should we say, unlucky, a play in for a 16th seed to the big dance.
Nice to see the team get off to a good start. Even better, we haven't seen
the normal preseason over-hype in the media this year. Great that the team has
the opportunity this to earn respect (or not) for themselves on the basketball
court...based on actual performance, not unrealistic expectations.
The poise will give us a better chance against Gonzaga and St Mary’s.
What we need to see is the discipline in close games to stay poised through
out.... that’s when we will see the real potential of this team. A good sign of this will be effective adjustments being made in the game
and players adequately adjusting to them.
Nick will not be missed. He and TJ play the same game and occupy the same spots
on the court. When they played together on the court they just got in each
other's way. Bryant and Childs are the stars on this team.
Everything should go through them. If the team, and especially TJ, don't
forget that, this team may surprise. TJ actually surprised me
tonight. I know I have been a big detractor, but he was actually attempting to
play defense and looked "alright".Can't wait to see how
they do in the next two games against better competition.
To answer your question, Dick, Emery will not be missed.
Granted, MVSU probably not a very good team but, Holy Smokes, BYU was hitting on
all cylinders. Essentially error free, lots of assists, good defense, and Bryant
was out of his mind. I truly hope this is a sign of things to come. They were
