SALT LAKE CITY — The Marvel Cinematic University lost an important member recently, and we aren't referring to those characters who dissolved into ash with Thanos’ snap. Mr. Oreo Racoon, the model for Rocket in “Guardians of the Galaxy,” died Thursday at the age of 10 after a short illness, according to a Deseret News article.
In honor of the real-life “sweet rabbit,” here are some of Rocket Raccoon's most memorable moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
Only one Rocket
We first meet Rocket Raccoon, an intelligent, smart-mouthed, genetically modified creature in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Rocket and his partner Groot, a treelike creature, attempt to catch Peter Quill, who has a bounty on his head. They are thwarted by another mercenary, Gamora, and all end up arrested by the Nova Corps. While in custody, they meet Drax the Destroyer, who becomes a member of the unlikely team.
Peter Quill: I’ve had a lot of folks try to kill me over the years. I ain’t about to be brought down by a tree and a talking raccoon.
Rocket Raccoon: "Hold up! What's a raccoon?"
Peter Quill: "What's a raccoon? It’s what you are, stupid."
Rocket Raccoon: "Ain't no thing like me, except me!"
Rocket’s soft side
Rocket, weapons and tactical expert of the Guardians of the Galaxy, also has a soft side. With their spaceship hurtling toward the ground, Groot grows a cocoon of branches around the Guardians to shield them from the impact.
Rocket: “No, Groot! You can't! You'll die! Why are you doing this? Why?"
Groot: “We are Groot.”
Rocket and stealing
After the Guardians help stop Ronan’s attack on Xandar, Rocket, ever the kleptomaniac, has a conversation with a member of the Nova Corps. The “woodland beast” just can’t understand why stealing is wrong.
Rocket: "Question. What if I see something that I want to take, and it belongs to someone else?"
Rhomann Dey: "Well, you will be arrested."
Rocket: "But what if I want it more than the person who has it?"
Rhomann Dey: "Still illegal."
Rocket: "That doesn't follow. No, I want it more, sir. Do you understand?"
Rocket, Baby Groot and the death button
In “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” the Guardians must destroy Ego the Living Planet after Peter Quill learns that Ego wants to take over the universe. Rocket, or “trash panda” tries to explain the detonator to Baby Groot.
Rocket: "Does anybody have any tape out there? I wanna put some tape over the death button."

The Avengers travel to Wakanda in “Avengers: Infinity War” in an attempt to remove the Mind Stone from Vision and destroy it before Thanos can get it. Rocket and Bucky Barnes fight side by side against Thanos’ cronies.
Rocket: "Come and get some, space dogs! Come on! Get some, get some, get some! Come on! Get some! How much for the gun?"
Bucky Barnes: "Not for sale."
Rocket Raccoon: "OK, how much for the arm? Oh, I’ll get that arm."
