Wow, had no idea there was so much jealousy and angst from coug fans, its becoming a little embarrassing coming from the fans of such a storied program with such a great brand, what with all the trophies from the leather helmet days.
This is a nice bowl, a let down from the Rose bowl but is what it is.
Good luck to the cougs in the couch potato bowl, they should have some fond memories of playing there.

Honestly, you should do some research before you write anything.

    You wrote:

"Northwestern is a good team that knows how to score."

Um, really? Score? I give you that they are a good team. That isn't in question.....

Northwestern has the #107 ranked scoring offense in the nation. #62 total defense

(Washington has the #83 ranked scoring offense in the nation. #12 total defense )

Utah has the #68 ranked scoring offense in the nation. #15 total defense

This may well be a boring, low scoring physical game that Utah wins. I love it.

I really like this match-up for Utah.

Not that I think it will be easy for Utah. I don't think that.

Utahs SOS dropped from #17 to #33 playing BYU.

Utah's SOS increased to #18 this week after playing Washington.

This Utah team has the chance to be the first team in the State's history to play a top 20 SOS and finish in the Top 20.

Matt Gay was the deciding factor in ONE game this year, against Oregon.

The other 8 wins, was combination of a solid defense (19 PPG) and a mid-level P12 offense (30 PPG).

Rival obsessed fans from down south are desperate to downplay Utah's accomplishment to luck or fluke wins by a kicker.

The fact, Utah is a Top 25 P5 program.

As compared to the "#1 most rivals obsessed fanbase" wetting themselfs with glee when Utah lost and they predicted Utah State vs Utah in Vegas.

Our Holiday bowl invite is the 3rd best in State over the last 20 years.

    1. 2008 Sugar Bowl: #4 Bama vs #6 Utah
    2. 2004 Fiesta Bowl: #6 Utah vs #18 Pitt
    3. 2018 Holiday Bowl: #17 Utah vs #22 NW

Utah wanted Rose, Holiday, Alamo in that order.

I've been know to troll on occasion, but this is a legit football question. How are U going to replace Matt Gay? He's a generational talent. No way U win the South this year without his performance against Oregon, and very few college kickers could hit that 53-yarder that kept you in contention against UW. While maybe not the "best" player, one could argue that he was the most important player on the squad.

Matt Gay was a backup in Game 1 last season.

This is not your grandpa's Holiday Bowl. It's funny how you talk about the Holiday Bowl today as if it is the SAME bowl it was 40 years ago. It's been 25 years since byu was last invited, meaning most byu students today were not even born yet. It has been a PAC, BIG XII (two conferences who don't want your school) match up for the last 20 years.

Your school did go to the inaugural Holiday Bowl 40 years ago, and the next six in a row, for a total of seven in a row. Seven in a row is "so many", but eight in a row is insignificant? Hmmm.

Of the eleven Holiday Bowl games your team played, they were only able to win four. Four of the first seven games. 4-6-1 record. Congratulations?

$6.3+ million payout for this year's Holiday Bowl. Not too shabby!!

I'm glad that you claim that BYU fans don't wanna show up at Utah. I wouldn't either if I was a Y fan. It is a fun place on game-day unlike BYU, the MUSS rocks the house, always sold out and I'm glad that BYU fans didn't buy the 163 tickets of the Y's allotment, because the standing room only Utes found a place to sit......and those 163 seats were eaten by the BYU's paltry $600k pay check from the U. BYU has to pay Utah $1.35 million to play football at BYU.

BYU hasn't been since the Holiday Bowl severed the tie in with the WAC in 1995. Since that time the PAC has been 23 times. The only way BYU would ever get in again is by buying tickets.

Why are BYU fans on this post talking about PAC12 championship attendance? If the game were at Husky Stadium or RES it would have been a sell-out. If they move the game to the new stadium in Las Vegas it would be better attended. If it was held in Tempe or So Cal in the warm weather with more to do it would be better attended. Comparing 2 local teams Stanford and CAL playing each other makes no sense - they were both playing for bowl implications and didn't have to travel.

Maybe BYU fans should focus more on empty seats at LES while they are losing to the likes of Utah State and Northern Illinois or beating powerhouse UMass and New Mexico State.

I hope that the City of Provo empties itself and travels well to the Blue Turf of Boise, ID on December 21 (lucky for you it's no Boise State you'll be facing.) Stick around and celebrate Christmas there as well!

    Michigan Cougsfan,

Your comments were misleading by implying that Utah did not travel well. On the contrary, Utah fans outnumbered Washington by at least 4 to 1. Utah was well represented, and in watching the FOX broadcast, the cameras only showed the Utah fans. As Brave Sir Robin pointed out, Utah sold out all of their allotment and even bought up a big portion of Washington’s seats. So blame the lower attendance on Washington, not Utah.

Also, pacmajor, what relevance does the Stanford/Cal game have on the PAC 12 championship game?

Speaking of lower attendance, just look at all of the empty seats at LES in Provo this year. Having 1/3 empty seats is becoming the norm. Hopefully your fan base will support your team in the Boise Potato Bowl. That stadium only seats about 30,000, so there is no reason why you can’t fill the stadium up. Good luck with that.

Genuine congratulations from a jealous Cougar to the Utes on scoring a great bowl game. Well deserved.

[BTW, even if you had fallen to the Sun Bowl that still would not have been a bad option. Now our bowl on the other hand ... well at least it's close and we are really familiar with the irritating blue turf.]

The Utes better figure out how to score more points than a 3-run home run. Northwestern is a good team that knows how to score.

    WACmidmajor:

Gosh, coog fans are concerned? Not to worry, Ute fans are glad they can go to San Diego in December. Perhaps you should be more worried about whether anyone will show up at blue-turf Boise.

Well deserved.....Playing in the prestigious Holiday Bowl against a fellow CFP ranked/P5 divisional winning opponent in beautiful SD.

Best team in the state, hands-down.

    Beat NW!

Boring Guy, it's funny you talking trash about going to such a great game as the Holiday Bowl. Most years BYU was angry that the Holiday Bowl was what they were forced to go to as winners of the conference so many years in a row.

It is hard to believe that the Stanford/Cal game yesterday drew almost 25,000 more in attendance than the pac12 championship game Friday night"

Well, lets see. The Stanford/Cal game was played in both Stanford and Cal's backyard, a 30 minute max drive for everyone. The Utes game, vs, Washington, was played in the Bay Area. An expensive flight and hotel rooms for all attending. You, being from Utah County, will spare no expense drive to Idaho to watch BYU play against a D II team. Right?

"The 2nd lowest attendance in the history of the CCG would say otherwise that Utah travels well!"

Go talk your smack in a Washington newspaper - they're the ones who didn't travel. Utah sold their entire allotment and part of Washington's.

Good luck to BYU-P in your bowl. I hear Boise is lovely in December!

Surprised and pleased at this matchup. NU has a nice team. They played Notre Dame (3) and Michigan (8) tough to the end and was in the game against Ohio State (6) until the early 4th quarter. The Holiday bowl made a great matchup.

I don’t think this will be good game. City College should roll NW. This is going to be an old fashion beat down in San Diego. NW will not score an offense touchdown in the bowl game. At least NW can enjoy the weather.

BYU fans were banking on Utah getting an invite to the Sun Bowl so they could make fun of how far the Utes fell in PAC-12 pecking order.
