    Oh AZUTE1,

I can't believe you are still as energetic after the U's terrible showing in the PAC championship game and their complete melt down in the bowl game. Ok SOS matters, but you act like it is the ONLY thing that matters. You ignore how USU DOMINATED in most all of those games we won (with the exception of 2). And the 2 USU lost were close games that could have gone either way. Utah was scoreless in the first half against a BYU team USU totally crushed. Your opinion is meaningless to me when both the coaches and the press (the people who actually make a living analyzing football) put USU (the lesser known, weaker conference, little brother school) in the top 25 over the U. There was nothing we could do about strength of schedule. It was planned many years in advance. USU can only play who is in our conference and the teams who will schedule us. USU actually schedules a P5 school every year. Outside of the PAC how many P5 schools do the Utes schedule? They only schedule patsies they know they can beat. That is why they are too scared to schedule USU anymore. They know there is a chance USU could beat them, and if they play us in Logan the chance is even greater.

“Why do we need to mention SOS when we know we have you to remind us.........On EVERY article about USU the WHOLE season.”

Because it’s the responsible thing to do—Qualifying your incessant claims that usu is somehow better than us based strictly on overall record by including the blatant disparity in SOS.

You shouldn’t need someone else to follow up in reminding you that usu played against literally one of the nation’s absolute weakest SOS.

You people act as if SOS is irrelevant when it’s in fact 100% relevant....What part of this is confusing, Sunshine?

9-5 against #26 SOS trumps 11-2 against #113 SOS all day, everyday, period.

    North Texas—Bwhahahaha

    Go Utes!

    AggieWACteam:

Settle down buddy! I always root for Utah State when they’re not playing the Utes. You know as well as all of us, the Aggies played an extremely weak schedule. Why do you think it took so long for the CFP polls to put them in there? It’s quite obvious. Enjoy this last season, and be glad GA is coming back, or your team would probably go back to the norm of 3-5 wins. And they may anyways.

As the last 20 years, the Aggies have posted like 5 winning seasons. And an even more embarrassing overall bowl record. Again, you USU “fans” need to stop acting like your team is SO superior, but rather a product of a weak schedule. If I’m wrong, please list the most impressive wins you had last season and why.

Hilarious....usu backed into their ranking via a super weak schedule, a schedule that was 5 times weaker than ours....Yet, usu couldn’t even win their super weak midmajor division—LOL

For once, incorporate SOS into your narrative, if you have the courage, as it’s 100% relevant.

Fact is, usu played 1 P5 opponent & lost—UNranked MSU, who lost their bowl game to a team we beat & also lost this year @ home to our finish ranked P5 bowl opponent.

    North Texas—Bwhahahaha

You're so right Bano. Those teams were so MUCH better because they were in the PAC. We all know the PAC is God's GIFT to football. Just like BYU and Boise State.

  • AggieWinningTeam Woods Cross, UT
    Jan. 10, 2019 2:12 p.m.

Why so salty Uteology? I am agreeing with with you, the PAC is MUCH better. The PAC BEAT MWC teams 6 out of 10 times this year. That is complete DOMINANCE. Plus if you take out games that don't matter like the silly bowl games, it was 6 out of 9. I would much rather go by some computer generated stats than ACTUAL reality. In the computer FANTASY world the Aggies would beat PAC teams only 17% of them time. Plus in my buddy Uteology's FANTASY world the Aggies would only be as good as Colorado in the PAC. Nevermind that none of these games happened in REALITY. The computers are so SMART. What do the press and coaches know? They only make their living reporting about and coaching NCAA football. A computer is WAY smarter than them.

Plus lets bring up prior seasons so we can be just like are brothers the BYU fans. BYU is great because they won a national championship in 1984. Utah is great because they are in the PAC. Except the one year in 2012 which was a FLUKE. Even though that loss to USU caused the U's athletic director to buy his way out of the next game in Logan and stop scheduling USU all together. Utes are DEFINITELY the best team in Utah this year.

  • bano SANDY, UT

Utah State had a very nice year but the problem with comparing Utah State to Utah is the fact that Utah State had no great wins. The only two decent teams they played they lost to. Utah beat Stanford and Oregon who both had respectable years. While both USC and UCLA were bad this year the Utes did beat them both and USC and UCLA are both better then the teams Utah State was beating up on.

    @AggieWinningTeam - Woods Cross, UT
The PAC is so much BETTER than the MWC. That's why the U could only spend 12 seasons in the MWC. They just had to get out. It is by far the worst conf in the FBS. They only had 3 ranked teams in the FINAL Coaches and AP Polls. All other G5 schools combined had 2. The U could go 0-9 in the PAC and still be better than an 11-2 MWC team.

    -----------

    Someone hurt your feelings?

PAC-12 is MUCH better than the MWC, just like SEC is MUCH better than the PAC-12. That's just a fact.

    #1 SEC-West 83
    #4 PAC-12 North 78 (-5)
    #9 PAC-12 South 73 (-10)
    #10 MWC Mountain 63 (-20)
    #15 MWC West 61 (-22)

    Source: Sagarin

Utah State vs PAC: 7-36 17%

USU is 1-21 since 1960 vs PAC. The only win was by your best team in history when in 2012 #16 Utah State beat 8-5 Utah in OT at home on a questionable call.

In 2018, Utah State wouldn't been much better than Colorado in the PAC-12.

Aggies didn't play Utah this year.

You can look at head to head - as a BYU fan I wish that Utah game could be a redo while USU was a beat down. USU was easily the better team against common opponents.

Then look at the rankings, USU wins that too.

Phenomenal team this year, I hope the changes don't mess it up. Anderson has been there before, but coming back does not give instant chemistry.

Utah had an amazing season also, but calling Utah "hands down" better is a stretch because the guys doing the rankings choose lesser known USU above Utah.

Two corrections to my previous posts:

I meant to tell Sports Nut to stop acting like an 11-2 Aggie team was better than a 9-5 Utes team.

Also the U's athletic director stopped scheduling the Battle of the Brothers not USU's.

    I apologize for the typos.

And before I forget. No matter what happens the Utes are wonderful.

🤔 I wonder why all the Utelovers keep addressing me in their comments. I am agreeing with them and just trying to tell Sports Nut how it is. There is NO WAY USU could POSSIBLY be 9-5 in the PAC. The PAC is so GREAT. They have had 2 teams make the college playoffs and one even made the championship. Ignore both of those teams were in the PAC North division and both got trounced in the games they were eliminated. It still makes the U way SUPERIOR to USU. The U WON the PAC South for heavens sake. Two whole teams from the PAC South went to bowl games. That's so AMAZING. Both did great in their bowl games. The Utes were winning at half time and ASU was tied with Fresno (from the far inferior MWC) at half. Plus the Aggies 2nd ranked scoring offense could NOT have possibly scored 3 points in the PAC championship.

Correct you are that Utah didn’t beat any teams this year that finished ranked. But the Utes have been there, done that, many times. Can’t say the same about Utah State. The Aggies finally have a good year for the first time in...forever, and look at all of them coming out of the woodwork. Let’s see if your team can stay consistent. History shows, they’re usually mediocre to terrible most years.

PS the Utes didn't beat any teams that ended the season ranked either.

PPS USU didn't play the Utes this year because USU's AD stopped scheduling USU after USU beat the U in 2012. He bought his way out of the 2014 game scheduled in Logan and finished off the 2013 and 2015 games in RES.

The Aggies were definitely the “best” team in the State last season. With an end of season Strength of Schedule at 113, and their opponents combined record of 60-88. Who would question it? Or we could just leave at this...they had the best overall record. But they didn’t play the Utes, so nobody will ever know. Congrats on finishing ranked for the THIRD time in school history! I choose to go by polls from people who actually can watch a game and season and then make a judgment, not by some computer spitting out stats. As for next year and every year before and after, its not where you start but where you actually finish. Almost 4 times as many voters in the AP (actual live people) say the Aggies are/were the best team in the state this year, and they are correct. Try and spin it anyway you want, but it will be a very long off season for the slc team and its fans. Go Aggies.

Utah is fine QB and OC wise. OCs turn over everywhere.

Alabama is elite. Saban has had more OCs than Whitt. Just say'n. And while they have some elite QBs now, Bama generally doesn't have elite QBs. It's true.

But they do have elite RBs and WRs. Even without an elite QB to throw to them.

Clearly a QB helps but Utah has a 4* WR commit who will sign in Feb. who is elite. And we don't have an OC yet.

Moss is elite and returning, and we don't have an OC yet. Just say'n.

    Mike,

KW is a much better coach than Kalani, active member of the church, and so that's a fit for BYU.

Whittingham got Utah winning with defense, when Bronco did the same thing the fans nearly ran him out of town, because if the fans aren't seeing the ball thrown 70 yards down-field and don't have a chance to see dramatic catches then it's not a BYU game.

Utah has a football culture, BYU also has a football culture. Utah has a better HC but Kalani is a better fit at BYU. I'm curious to see if Kalani improves over the next few seasons - he should be looking at renting rather than buying right now.

I think the grad transfer rule is a great one. By allowing athletes who earn their degrees to transfer without having to sit out a year, it helps keep athletes focused on their academic progress and provides another reason to graduate.

I congratulate these two young men and the recent grad transfer at the Y for their focus on academics and their graduation.

Best wishes to all three as well as they look for on field opportunities.

Of all the comments, this story is specifically about Mariner and Hart. Hart was never an impact player - talent or not, and Utah has never had much of an issue in fielding a top defense, from the defensive line to linebackers to the secondary. The NFL knows that. So, we wish Hart well but he is easily replaced.

As for Mariner, a promising talent for sure, that never completed materialized for a number of reasons. However, it was Mariner who (unfortunately for him and team) failed to secure an important catch in the PAC12 championship coughing it up for the only TD in the game to the UW. So, best of luck to him as well in his next efforts.

As for the rest, Tuttle is the saddest to see go and who knows what will become of him. As for Taylor, it will be years before and if he is relevant again in the Division 1 football landscape.

Utah can't recruit offensive players, because the smart ones look at the track record of the U and realize that A- they don't throw the ball very well, and B- they'll try and switch you to defense if you're any good.

Good luck to both. Mariner showed flashes of brilliance. His issue this year was he was injured when Huntley was QB and Shelley clearly had a preference for Dixon in his throwing rotation (for good reason). I think Mariner will succeed wherever he goes.

I agree, while it is a loss, not a huge one, especially if our young WRs improve over the off season.

I am hoping the 'playing alongside the brother' aspect is enough to snag P Nacua over to Utah from USC. If we got him, Darren Jones, and Lolani Langi our class would jump from being very below average to above average, especially considering its size. The last 5 recruit pieces for Utah are those three, Junior Tafuna, and a QB with getting 4/5 being necessary to save this recruit class.

Also, I don't think we need to worry about people leaving. 4 NFL potential juniors decided to stick around showing people want to stay as much, if not more, than they want to leave.

The concern will be the year 2020 when all our Seniors to be leave, plus J. Johnson (most likely).

Like some have suggested, the U needs to intensify its efforts to flip Puka Nicua. With Mariner gone there's any opening in the receiver corps. With USC losing its OC, PN should be attracted to a program where the coaching staff isn't out shopping for a new OC.

I think it's a good move on his part. Covey is back next year, Enis and Dixon came on strong the last several games of the year, Nacua had more production this season, AND we've got Darren Jones as a hard commit. Who knows, maybe Mariner has even heard things about Jones being sure to sign, and that helped lead to his decision. Regardless, I'm grateful for what he did for the team, and I wish him well. I hope he ends up somewhere where he can get a lot of reps.

Whittingham once said, “if nobody wants your coaches, then there’s something wrong with your program.” And I 100% agree with that. Don’t see anyone lined up to snatch any coaches from your cougs. And players transfer from EVERY program EVERY season.

    Maybe worry more about this...

    2010...loss
    2011...loss
    2012...loss
    2013...loss
    2015...loss
    2016...loss
    2017...loss
    2018...loss
    What’s next?

And no Final AP rankings in nearly a decade. And not one CFP poll appearance. That’d be my biggest concerns if I were a coug fan. As well as recruiting classes that are in the 80s and 90s. Not who the Utes are losing. But thanks for your concern anyways!

Best of luck Mariner. I wish you well!

    "Tuttle -gone..."

But we STILL have a returning Senior QB, PLUS a returning backup with 5 games now under his belt, and he's only a Sophomore. And those were the 1st and 2nd team QBs. Tuttle was 3rd on the depth chart.

YOU guys on the other hand are losing YOUR 2nd-string QB.

    QB depth edge: Utah.

    "Mariner-gone..."

But we still have plenty of more productive receivers returning: Covey, Dixon, Nacua, Simpkins, Enis.

YOU guys on the other hand are losing both Collie AND Dye!

    WR depth edge: Utah.

    "Ena-gone...Taylor-gone...Whos next ??"

And don't forget Andersen. And the answer to your question is...the next hottest coach in the state. Same as it ever was. YOU guys on the other hand, don't have ANY "hot" coaches that other programs are interested in. So essentially, you're "stability" is your "weakness". Not your "strength". Haha!

    HUGE Coaching depth edge: Utah.

We need a capable QB in order to retain and attract receiver talent. Oh, and the revolving door at OC hurts too. KWhitt needs to figure things out, we're a good football team now but if we want to be elite we need consistency.

BYU has a transfer who had three tackles and their world is ending while my alma mater loses a wide receiver and it is no big deal. That follows.

Guys taking shots at Utah might want to take a look at other program transfers. Utah is significantly better than most other programs keeping their guys around. I wish Siosi the best...things just didn't go the way everyone hoped. Sometimes a new place will make a difference for him . He's a great kid.

"Wow ! A Lot of movement going on at the u and not in a good way ..... What is going on up there ??"

One WR transfers out after the season, while Manny Bowen (4star LB) transfers in. Not to mention Moss, Fotu, Blackmon and Anae decide to stay for their senior year, and you say that's is not in a good way? Please educated me on what would be better? Coach Taylor taking a HC is normal, so don't go there.

You do realize Mariner is not even a projected starter, I would leave also to get playing time.

What are you talking about? We lose one WR, who ranked 6th on the team in receiving, but keep our star RB, DT, DE, and CB -- all of whom were projected to have anywhere from a "decent shot" to a "sure thing" at landing on an NFL squad -- and you're wondering about what's going on with your big brother on the hill? We're gonna be just fine! I'd be more worried about why aren't any other FBS programs interested in your coaches or graduate transfers if I were you.

    Silly indy-WACer.

A good solid receiver for the Utes and there's talent here. But like so many Ute receivers over the past couple of decades, no real ability to become "the man" or to really separate or make big-time catches except on rare occasions. If you watched the Clemson squad last night you saw receivers of that type. Britian Covey is the guy for the Utes and a couple of very young TE's have shown that they have good hands and the ability to rumble after the catch. Until a Ute WR finally shows that he has what it takes to be the one who handles long aired out passes and not let them slip through his fingers, that is what the Utes will rely on (I think Samson Nacua has the best chance to develop into that kind of receiver). I don't think Siaosi will become a Darrin Carrington, but I do think he can contribute somewhere and perhaps become a bit of a playmaker. Good luck to him and thank you for your time as a Ute.
