    LOL

It’s basketball season and this is a basketball article.

What relevance does football have in the discussion?

UCLA stopped doing what had earned them a 22 point lead. UCLA went into a "prevent defense" - running the clock out each possession and then looking for a forced shot before the shot clock ran out. (Sound familiar, football fans?) But Utah won the game. My unofficial stats show Utah hit 7 of 15 three pointers, 10 or 11 two pointers, and 5 of 7 free throws from the 12+ minute mark when they were 22 points behind. Those statistics will win a lot of games!

Irony? "Pathetic" UCLA has by far the best physical talent in the conference. Unfortunately, they come up short on their mental talent and the coaching they receive.

JWR surely is spinning in his grave with all the shortfalls in the program since 1996.

The only coaches on the national scene who can stem the tide are unlikely to leave their current jobs.

    This Bruin can only weep......

    @Who am I sir? — @79Ute

It was named the "Manny Hendrix Miracle Shot."

I was at that game but almost left because my buddy said, "No way Utah's going to win this one." I tried to argue with him that it "ain't over until it's over." But he wouldn't listen and got up and left. I followed him but lagged behind and stood at the top of one of the side entrances and watched as Wyoming tossed the ball out-of-bounds. Utah's Gale Gondrezick then inbounded the ball to Manny as he rose up caught the ball in the air and knocked down the shot with only 1-second on the clock.

Needless to say, the crowd went "Wild!" None of us could believe what we had just witnessed — one of the most improbable victories in the history of UofU basketball.

Afterward, I ran out to tell my buddy what had happened and he didn't believe me — until I let him listen for himself on my portable radio.

The date was March 4, 1985. The final score was Utah 61, Wyoming 60.

After the game, Wyoming coach Jim Brandenburg said, "We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory."

Want to learn more? Google the Deseret News article, "Utah's top-10 conference tournament games of all time."

    Lynn Archibald was the coach.

I don't get it, BYU plays in bad one bid conference every year. But for some reason they keep asking how bad the PAC-12 is.

I can only chuckle at the fans of our little blue brother in Provo who have come have posted comments about the UTES great comeback win over UCLA.

What I don't understand is that their team is rated 80th by Sagarin and the UTES 91st..the difference in their individual ratings is .61, not significant. And while they did beat the UTES handily in December, I am betting that is not the case now. Any team can get lucky...look at

BTW, Sagarin has the PAC12 rated as the 6th best conference...and the West Coast as the 11th.
Playing in a conference that is almost always only gets one invite when you are never the best team make all the dissing of the UTES by the football-centered school down south laughable.

What a comeback, should be a answer to a trivial question, what team won a game without ever leading during game time? (ball went through after time expired) hopefully this win will be a huge learning experience for the kids, play hard, never give up until the whistle blows and you never know what might happen...Allen is going to be a stud (if not already) Gach has the chance to become a very, very good player, Battin is starting to really find himself on the court, and they're all Freshmen, things all looking up on the Hill, as always, a Great day to be a Ute

I sat amid UCLA fans who were absolutely stunned. One guy was screaming that he was sick of this kind of play, but almost all the rest of them were just staring out at the court with wax statue expressions on their faces. Then a few just started smiling and shaking their heads. I absolutely did NOT dream the Utes were going to have a chance to win this until Timmy Allen's offensive rebound put back. And even then, it looked impossible. Went and had a beer at Rocco's in Westwood afterwards and when I walked in--people still had shocked looks on their faces. I don't care about the records, the season or the strength of the opponents schedule---this one was one for the ages. Man, they fought hard when it looked hopeless. This game took me back some 50 years. Utah vs. Wyoming. Wyoming led by1 point with somewhere like 2 seconds to go and they had the ball out of bounds! There was a time out called and I spent the entire time telling my sons why Utah could not win the game. Well, Wyoming tried a long inbounds pass that was not touched! (All they had to do was have it touched in bounds and the time would expire - as I told my boys) Well, because it was not touched Utah got the ball out of bounds in their end of the court. Ball in - on a touch shot by Manny Hundricks - ball through the net! I then had to explain for quite a long time how Utah did win. Now I have to explain to my grandkids how Utah could win this game when they trailed the game from buzzer to buzzer and no overtime!

This just added to today's euphoria. Utah 7 - opponents 0. Not a score - the results!
Wins by U men's basketball, Women's gymnastics, Women's softball won 2 games, women's tennis, women's swim/diving won, and historically the first win ever by our Lacrosse team!

What a day to be a Ute!
